Painting again, Not sure the surface? Use ChemStuk test kit.
Follow the instruction to see if you can recoat the surface again.
ChemStuk coating test kit is used to test a previously painted surface to determine an unknown coating to give an indication of what coating may be used to recoat the surface. ChemStuk coating test kit contains reactive diluent to react with the old coating and determine the type of the material.
The existing coating may become sticky or tacky and if coloured the colour may come off on your rag and then dry hard after 15 to 30 minutes. This normally indicates the existing coating is a Solvent Based Alkyd or Acrylic. Otherwise it can be Epoxy or Polyurethane if nothing stick to the rag , small test area of is recommended as a precaution to check suitability.
The existing coating may wrinkle and strip off the surface and this normally indicates the existing coating is an Enamel Paint and must be either removed or recoated with another coat of enamel coating.
The existing coating may react when the surface is rubbed with a rag and may clean off the surface and appear like chewing gum or look gritty and ball up. This normally indicates the existing coating is a water-based coating and can be recoated with another water based single pack coating or ChemStuk Polyurit will adhere to this coating however testing Polyurit on this coating is recommended as a precaution. The existing coating may not show any reaction at all and the surface may simply be cleaned by the solution. This normally indicates the existing coating is a two-pack coating and must be recoated with another two-pack coating.
How to do it!
Apply a small amount to the patch of the existing coating choose an clear area where the previous coating is in good condition around 5Cm. keep the coating wet with the solution applying more as required.
